The Devil in His Own Words
As part of our tenth anniversary celebration, Taffety Punk presents our very first show. The Devil in His Own Wordsrevised, revamped, and remixed for this productionis a fast-paced tragicomedy that upends expectations and digs deep into the identity of humanity's oldest villain.
Who (or what) is the Devil? Why is he still here? Taffety Punk founding member Marcus Kyd seeks answers by portraying the Devil's appearances in centuries of literature from all over the globe.
The play features numerous texts, including those of John Milton, C.S. Lewis, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Mark Twain, Mikhail Bulgakov, Rumi, Ben Jonson, Charles Dickens, and Gustave Flaubert, as well as fragments from apocryphal scriptures and Sufi literature. These are woven by Kyd into a unique perspective on the first to be cursed.
