Sickle Cell-abration Concert to Raise Awareness of Sickle Cell Disease Indianapolis, IN The Indiana Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center and the Indiana State Department of Health are sponsoring the 6th annual Sickle Cell-abration on September 6, 2014. This free event will raise awareness of Sickle Cell disease in the greater Indianapolis area. Sickle cell disease affects millions of people worldwide. An estimated 100,000 people in the United States have sickle cell disease, primarily those who are African American. Individuals with this disease have abnormal hemoglobin molecules in their red blood cells. These abnormal molecules cause red blood cells to become sickle shaped and clump together, blocking the flow of blood through vessels and leading to painful sickle cell crises, organ damage, and anemia. Life-threatening complications include infection, acute chest syndrome, stroke, and pulmonary hypertension. Painful crises are the leading cause of emergency room visits and hospitalizations of people who have sickle cell anemia. Sickle Cell-abration will be held at Pike Performing Arts Center, 6701 Zionsville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46268 on Saturday, September 6th. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the concert will be from 6:00 10:00 pm. This concert is free-ticketed event. This year we are pleased to announce featured artist Raheem Devaughn along with: Men In The Fire And other special performances For more information: Contact: Kisha Hampton at 317-871-0000 Visit: www.ihtc.org Or follow this event on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/SickleCellabration Twitter @SickleCelabrate
