Pura Fé and The Ulali Project
Pura Fé is an award-winning singer/songwriter/activist and teacher. She is known as the founding member of the internationally renowned Native women a cappella trio, Ulali, and is recognized for creating a new genre, mixing contemporary sounds and Native traditional music. The Ulali Project is a re-formation of the trio Ulali, led once again by Pura Fé. Featuring Jennifer Kreisberg, Charly Lowry, and Layla Locklear, the quartet brings together four diverse artists, to claim a unique space in contemporary American music. The Ulali Project has its musical roots in the southeast pre-contact/pre-Columbian traditional tribal music. Their vocal harmonies, informed by the different rhythms of the land, are interwoven with their own personal contemporary styles. Pride in Native traditions and their impact on American culture is a recurring theme.
