2014 Thomas Berry Lecture
Each year the Center for Environmental Transformation (CFET) hosts a lecture fundraiser to both educate people about the challenges to our environmental as well as to raise funds to support our programming. This year, on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 3PM, we are happy to announce that Mr. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., an environmental lawyer and activist, will give the lecture this year. He is a dynamic speaker, a person who not only talks the talk, but walks, the walk. The recent documentary "The Last Mountain" details the catastrophe of mountain top removal in the Appalachian Mountains and the part Kennedy played in the fight led by local activists. His talk is entitled "Our Environmental Destiny." This event begins at 3PM, with time for questions and answers. After the talk, a reception will be held at the Michael J. Doyle Fieldhouse. The talk will be at Sacred Heart Church, on the corner of s. Broadway & Ferry Ave., in Camden, with the reception a block away, on S. Broadway. Copies of Mr. Kennedy's books and the documentary films he's been part of will be available, with a chance for him to sign copies. Tickets are $50 with all proceeds to benefit the programming of CFET. CFET offers much needed environmental education, sustainable employment, youth leadership training and a weekly farmers market, working with neighbors and encouraging them to engage in actions that address the environmental challenges with which they live. Young people are taught how to work CFET's gardens, how to harvest and prepare food, how to work together and acquire skills in business strategies and even receive training at Villanova University in business management; all of these programmatic elements are designed to open up new possibilities for Camden youth.
