Debbie Does Dallas, the Musical
Debbie Does Dallas, the Musical, the most important theatrical event of the twenty-first century, is returning to New York City for the first time since 2002 for a limited engagement from August 6th through the 9th. A modern morality tale, it is told as a comic musical of tragic proportions in the language of the rodeo-porno-football circus.
The show features the coming-of-age story of an all-American small-town sweetheart named Debbie Benton, the captain of her high-school cheerleading team, who dreams of making it to the big time by becoming a Texas Cowgirl Cheerleader. When Debbie receives a letter telling her she has qualified for the professional squad, the only thing that stands between her and the realization of her dream is bus fare to the big city: Dallas. She enlists her teammates to form a company called Teen Services and get jobs to raise money, but when they learn that minimum-wage jobs just don't pay enough, they agree to try their hands at "little favors" performed with enthusiasm by "good girls."
The musical is based on the film of the same name, but without any actual sex or nudity.
Debbie Does Dallas will be performed at the Teatro Circulo, 64 East 4th Street, on August 6, 7, 8, and 9. There will be one performance on Wednesday (8/6) evening at 7pm and 2 performances per evening at 7 & 930pm on Thursday - Saturday (8/7-8/9)
The show stars Mikah Horn, Stefanie Miller, Katie Perpall, Nicole Hale, Megan Fleming, Matt Hill, Michael Gioia, Charlie Stoop, Parker Krug and Chris Rehmann. The Director of the show is Nikki DiLoreto, the Musical Director is Deniz Cordell, the Choreographer is Eric Emch, and casting was led by Nikki Grillos. The book was written by Susan L. Schwartz with music and lyrics by Andrew Sherman, Tom Kitt and Jonathan Calicutt.
The musical is being produced by 5th Floor Theatre, a not-for-profit theatre company offering opportunities in the theatre arts through a network of young professionals.
5th Floor Theatre was founded in 2008 by a group of NYU graduates, all from various backgrounds and professions who still had one thing in common: they wanted to keep doing theatre.
Each year, 5th Floor Theatre produces a season which includes: two full-length productions of established stage work; one midsummer festival of short pieces; and social events throughout the season open to all members.
Over its first five years, 5th Floor Theatre has produced four full-scale musicals and two full-length plays, recruiting actors, designers, directors, musicians, and crew regardless of their professional background or theatre experience level. 5th Floor Theatre has reached thousands of audience members since its inception, and has served as an artistic outlet and professional launch pad for nearly 100 members of the New York theatre community, several of whom have appeared on Broadway after 5th Floor Theatre offered them their first New York City opportunity. Dozens of others have gone on to perform with national tours, several attaining equity status. For these members, the network of 5th Floor Theatre has provided a key point of entry into New York City theatre.
