The Complete Suitcase Stories
10-minute autobiographic stories were created for the Lobby Project, a part of the anniversary season celebration at the Pacific Theatre. Maki Yi, playwright and performer, shared her life stories with the patrons in the lobby before the MainStage production starts. Connecting to the themes of each MainStage play, Maki told different chapters of her Pre-Canada & Canadian life, as an outcast, an exile, a foreigner, or a new Canadian. The stories are developed into a full length play, and return to the Pacific Theatre stage as part of Playground Series in the summer of 2014. The play is a true story of one woman's journey to find a home where she could be herself, free from social, cultural oppression. She chose Canada, a country welcoming new comers, for her second chance. However, the new life is anything but she could ever imagine.
