Bad Hindu in association with East 4th Street and Off-Chance Productions present the world premiere of Rise and Shine [I thought I was white]
Written & Performed by Anil Kumar Directed by Reena Dutt Produced by Sara Fenton
Rise and Shine [I thought I was white] is a semi-autobiographical cautionary tale of how an Indian kid from Ohio achieves spiritual enlightenment despite his self-hatred; He thought he was white.
It is a story about a young man coming to terms with his parents, his culture, and ultimately himself. Told through the voices of his Punjabi immigrant family in the heartland of America, Anil Kumar's energetic and passionate performance shares a universal tale of bravery, connection, and self-acceptance.
Sometimes enlightenment take the path of most resistance.
70 mins, no intermission
