GOBLIN MARKET
AN ELDRITCH GLIMPSE, a multi-media theatre company, was formed last year and staged "Goblin Market", their first production, in Brighton, selling out both nights to great acclaim:
Christina Rossetti's darkly sensuous poem of impulsive curiosity, rapturous yearning for the heady must of otherworldly fruit, and a languishing addiction.
An Eldritch Glimpse's adaptation is permeated with the writer's ambivalence: the gender of our goblins, no longer determined by the text, wanders queerly from the original and we ponder the nature of their fruits as well as the ambiguous relationship of the sisters in a reality that is mutable and subjective.
The poem's narration is accompanied by masked play and puppetry, with an improvised soundscape (by SCRYING YLEM) and a backdrop of abstract film, all weaving a dreamlike spell.
Contains a small section with flashing lights in the film.
Unsuitable for children.
