Schave & Reilly: DEPARTMENT OF ANGELS
Schave and Reilly are charming he with a blandly comic face, she small and expressive and both are as graceful and intrepid as angels should be. Heaven should be as sweet as this. --Orlando Sentinel
The art of slapstick is masterfully and lovingly rendered by Ben Schave and Caitlin Reilly of Austin, Texas This family-friendly pair is reminiscent of classic slapstick shaped by Charlie Chaplin and the Marx Brothers. --Minneapolis Star Tribune
In Department of Angels, heaven is a bureaucracy. Yep, thats right, being an Angel is an office job. Two bungling Angels clock in, sign out their equipment (halos & clouds!), and immediately fill their bureaucratic jobs with slapstick comedy antics. From their cloud cubicle, they pull pranks on each other, trip and slip and knock and fall down, and sneak samples of the peace, joy, and love they are supposed to dole out. Ultimately, they go too far. Purely ridiculous, Department of Angels is smart and uproarious vaudeville style clowning complete with whoopee cushion and red telephone.
Department of Angels, is the latest offering from the slapstick geniuses, SCHAVE & REILLY in Austin, TX. Heralded as the sweet retro surprise of the fringe by the St. Paul Pioneer Press as part of the 2008 Minnesota Fringe Festival, Department of Angels received the Frontera Fringe Festival wild card Best of the Fest award in 2007.
SCHAVE & REILLY is the husband and wife team of Ben Schave and Caitlin Reilly. They have been clowning together for over ten years after receiving extensive training in clown, theatre, and dance from the DellArte International School of Physical Theatre, the University of Texas, and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. Recipients of the Wild Card Best of the Fest in Frontera Fringe Festival, and Best neo-Vaudeville and Miscellany Award at the Texas Burlesque Festival, Schave & Reilly are on the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Artist Roster.
