Trouble The Water Film Screening
LITM's Independent Filmmakers Series Kicks off with the documentary "Trouble the Water" Saturday, June 6th - 1:00 pm
LITM is honored to bring this independent film about Hurricane Katrina to the Jersey City Community. The film's Producer, Tia Lessin, will be joining us for a Q and A immediately following the screening.
About the film: Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, and nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, this astonishingly powerful documentary takes you inside Hurricane Katrina in a way never before seen on screen. Incorporating remarkable home footage shot by Kimberly Rivers Roberts, an aspiring rap artist trapped with her husband in the 9th ward directors/producers Tia Lessin and Carl Deal (producers of Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine) weave this insiders view of Katrina with a devastating portrait of the hurricane's aftermath.
All proceeds will benefit the NOLA Preservation Society - a non-profit organization promoting the rebuilding of New Orleans and the preservation and education of its unique culture. The money raised will help NOLA to send 100 Jersey City High School kids to New Orleans at the end of June.
We are honored to have Tia Lessin join us, and hope to see you there.
