Carmanah with The Barefoot Thieves and Sam Weber
Come help us launch our new album, "Out of the Woodwork", and send us off on our first Western-Canadian tour! We're so excited to share this evening with some great musicians and friends: The Barefoot Thieves, from Salt Spring Island, and Victoria's Sam Weber.
Our tour, from May 16th-June 8th, will take our new album from Victoria to as far as Saskatoon. Along with evening gigs, we have teamed up the the Jellyfish Project - an educational initiative that brings music and environmental awareness into middle and high schools. Through music, the JFP teaches students about the declining health of our oceans and gets them involved in the environmental conversation, providing examples for awareness and ways to get active.
Please join us for an evening of west-coast music and see us off on Carmanah's first tour ever!
This is an all ages event.
Doors at 7:00pm / show starts at 7:30pm
Tickets $15 advance / $17 at the door.
CARMANAH http://carmanahband.ca/ https://www.facebook.com/carmanahband
Members of Carmanah named the band in honour of the many people that protested to keep the old growth trees in the Carmanah Valley of Vancouver Island safe from logging companies in 1988. Through protest, civil disobedience, and chaining themselves to the biggest Sitka Spruces in the world, the Canada Wilderness Committee, First Nations Peoples and other passionate British Columbians were awarded with the creation of Carmanah Pacific Provincial Park in 1990.
The band is proud to embrace the energy of the beautiful west-coast of Canada. Carmanah has captivated audiences of all ages and musical preferences with a sound that incorporates folk, funk, rock, reggae and country. Abounding with musical energy, original writing and the dedication to do whatever it might take, Carmanah is excited to be growing into the Canadian music scene.
Highlights for the band include, opening for Ziggy Marley at the Royal Theatre, playing at Rifflandia Music Festival 2012, being a Zone 91.3 Band of the Month in April, 2013, and playing a Canadian Music Festival showcase performance in Toronto, March 2013. They have had the pleasure of performing with some of BC's best acts, including Current Swell, Jon & Roy, Vince Vaccaro, and Wake Owl.
We see the challenges that our world faces today and believe that, for us, music is the best way to speak our minds. We look forward to meeting you one day and to hearing what you have to say.

SAM WEBER https://www.facebook.com/samwebermusic www.webermusic.bandcamp.com
Hailing from the open skies and minds of Victoria, BC, Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist Sam Weber has gone from strength to strength with sonics that have caught the imagination of listeners and media across the world. His ambitious, masterful debut full-length album Shadows in the Road is the culmination of years already spent intensely focused on gigging and recording.
Shadows in the Road is an album of intense contrasts, emotional entanglement, and mercurial, enthralling arrangements. Comparisons and contrasts are admittedly a glib exercise, but if you, dear reader, require them, then Weber channels the raw simplicity of early John Hiatt and Bruce Springsteen, while maintaining the gentle emotive grip of acts like Bon Iver and Bat for Lashes.
In 2012, at age 19, Weber was one of the youngest people to ever be covered in a major Guitar Player magazine feature. "Weber's expansive blend of driving rock, dream pop and roots influences is a testament to fierce ambition," said Guitar Player editor Anil Prasad. "The singer-songwriter and guitarist is already an expert tunesmith, brimming with addictive, adventurous and confident pieces. Infused with deep wit and wisdom, Weber's output is truly impressive. His guitar work is also killer, full of nuance, soul and a truly unique voice. This is an artist built for the long-term. We'll be hearing a lot more from Weber in the coming years, and more than likely, decades."
The prestigious Berklee College of Music also saw Weber's incredible potential, awarding him a summer scholarship when he was 17. The school went on to award him a full-time scholarship, but Weber's artistic instincts proved too restless and he returned home to Canada to pursue his songcraft.
In addition to his solo work, Weber plays with the celebrated Canadian indie rock act Jets Overhead. As part of the band, Weber has enthralled audiences, opening for the likes of Sam Roberts, The Tragically Hip, Said the Whale, Current Swell, and Stars.
Weber's journey is just beginning, and it's off to a truly inspiring start. We invite you to jump onboard and check out this amazing talent during his "early era." We're confident Shadows in the Road is a classic in the making. We're sure you'll agree.
