May Day Dinner at Queens Farm
MAY DAY
Fresh ideas & food at
Queens County Farm Museum
May 1, 2009

UPDATE:  Due to the strong likelihood of rain, we will not be erecting the Maypole and the dinner will move into our 18th century farmhouse.

Celebrate a spring tradition with an outdoor dinner and discussion with Apple Pond Farm & Renewable Energy Education Center.

7pm: Tour the farm with renewable energy expert Dick Riseling of Apple Pond Farm and QCFM farmer Michael Robertson

Dick Riseling offers renewable energy workshops across the state and is an expert on assessing sites for their renewable energy potential.  At 6pm, Dick will lead a tour of the Queens County Farm Museum to discuss possible implementation of solar, wind, and geothermal systems.

7:30pm: Sunset canapes, garland weaving, maypole and bonfire (weather permitting)

Join us around the old farmhouse and in the orchard for May Day fertility rituals.  We will uncork the first bottles of wine as diners make garlands together and decorate the May Pole.  As the sun begins to set, well keep the light alive with a small bonfire in the orchard.

8:30pm: Five-course dinner featuring local lamb and far-flung flavor from The Hapa Kitchen

Hapa is the Hawaiian word for half Asian and this night The Hapa Kitchen will serve five courses of vernal fare, featuring lamb and tender spring vegetables from the farm, in a fresh poly-cultural style.

The dinner features wines from Heart and Hands, Wolffer Estate and Anthony Road Winery.

Wines provided by New York Wine & Grape Foundation.

$75 per person. Space is limited, please purchase your tickets soon.  Tickets are non-refundable.

Transportation
