Amateurs
A funny and touching, play about community theater people in New England, those who could be your friends and neighbors, will be Nashua Theatre Guild's next production when they perform Amateurs, by Tom Griffin, the author of The Boys Next Door, on May 1 4 in the Janice B. Streeter Theater on 14 Court Street in Nashua. It is opening night of Timberly Troupers new production a musical about undertakers and an after-show party is be hosted by Dorothy and her quietly mad husband, Charlie. One by one, the small amount of guests arrive (a larger competing party is being held across town). They include the lead actors, Wayne and Jennifer. Wayne strikes himself as a middle-aged Lothario and Jennifer is actively seeking work as a Hollywood actress. Two other actors from the show arrive Ernie, the company's cut-up and his wife, Irene. Rounding out the guest list are Mona, a young woman who was involved with Wayne; Nathan, a shy teacher who's not in theater but is an extremely amateur ventriloquist; and Paul Courtland, a noted local critic who is also a friend of Dorothy's and decided to review the show as a favor. When the critic unexpectedly leaves in an emergency situation, the party takes a bittersweet turn when the review he was to publish is left behind and read. Nashua Theatre Guild's production will be directed by Kevin Riley and stage managed by Val Verge. The talented ensemble are Maria Barry as Dorothy, Len Deming as Charlie, Rich Alcott as Wayne, Kasey MacDonald as Jennifer, Mario Arruda as Ernie, Christine Haskell as Irene, Sarah Lord as Mona, Jeffrey Richardson as Nathan, and Mark J. Ferman as Paul Courtland.
