New Orleans International Puppet Festival 2014
Weekend One: April 3rd 6th:
New Orleans Puppet Fest goes international with Hanging by a Thread, presented by Di Filippo Marionette. In this show seven puppets appear successively, through the art of Italian actor-puppeteer Remo Di Filippo. Puppets come alive and portray stories and situations that are moving, poetic and surreal.
New Orleans favorite Harry Mayronne performs High-Strung Harry's International Marionette Cabaret. Featuring Boris Vian, Bertoldt Brecht and Nina Hagen.
Calliope Puppets' Karen Konnerth presents Juancito y Maria, a humorous and action-packed melodrama from the works of Argentina's beloved Javier Villafañe. Learned from Patagonian titiritero (puppeteer) Rafaél Teixido, traditional hand puppets and lots of audience participation bring to life a timeless tale of good versus evil.
Sierra Camille and her Painting Puppets. Watch puppeteer and her giant-scale puppets as they create a massive painted artwork live.
Weekend Two: April 10th 13th:
Secret of the Spider by Portland-based artists Puppetkabob, featuring members of Night Shade. Marionettes and shadow puppets combine to tell the story of a young girl who is bitten by a spider to find her world spun into a circle of creative obsession.
From Asheville, NC, Toybox Theatre and Cripps Puppets premiere The Mysterious Metamorphosis or Mr. Krank. Mr. Krank goes on a bizarre journey and is subject to many fantastic transformations. Awarded a grant for excellence by The Jim Henson Foundation.
The Adventures of Puss in Boots by The Mudlark Puppeteers. This is a lively retelling of a treasured fable as told through giant-scale puppetry and live music.
The Fest also includes special guest performances, a gallery of puppetry and an adults-only lineup on the Fridays and Saturdays of the Fest at The Mudlark Public Theatre!
