*** FINAL WEEKEND *** MUST CLOSE MAY 4 ***
The Visceral Company presents direct from off-Broadway West Coast premiere of dark science-fiction thriller RECALL
The Visceral Company, winner of "best LA theater season" accolades for 2013 from review aggregate site Bitter Lemons, is pleased to present the West Coast premiere of dark science-fiction thriller RECALL by Eliza Clark (writer for AMC's Rubicon and The Killing). This is the first production of the play since its off-Broadway debut.
Set in a dystopian America where the government monitors and "recalls" teenagers prone to violent behavior, our LA premiere of recall has received great reviews. "GO!!! A dark, dystopian sci-fi allegory." LA Weekly "TOP 10 SHOW! RECOMMENDED!" Stage Raw "A polished and sharp production!" Talkin' Broadway "Hits the mark... a WOW experience!" LA Post "Creepy and terrifying!" Neon Tommy "Unsettling and unforgettable!" Thespian Thoughts
IIn RECALL, single mom Justine (Karen Nicole) is on the run with teenage daughter Lucy (Madeline Bertani) from a government that "recalls" violent individuals. Justine grows close to the mysterious David (Mark Souza), who runs the safe house where they seek shelter, while at school Lucy befriends disturbed loner Quinn (Kevin Grossman). Government reprogrammer Charlotte (Lara Fisher) insinuates herself into their lives as her hidden agenda is gradually revealed. As relationships intensify and motives become clearer, Lucy's frightening tendencies come to the surface and threaten to destroy everything. Ultimately, RECALL explores our need to feel connected, understood and loved no matter the damage, no matter the cost.
RECALL will play Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm and Sunday matinees at 3 pm, from March 21 through May 4, 2014, at the Lex Theatre, 6760 Lexington Ave., Hollywood, CA. Tickets are $25. Parental guidance is strongly recommended for children under 13. Late seating is at the discretion of management and cannot be guaranteed.
RECALL is directed by Dan Spurgeon (Visceral's Artistic Director and 2013 LA Weekly Theater Award winner), with lighting design by Joshua Silva, set design by Chris Bell, sound design and original music by Tyler Burton, and costume design by Pam Noles.
Playwright Eliza Clark, best known for her work on the AMC TV series Rubicon and The Killing, is also the author of Edgewise, The Metaphysics of Breakfast, Hiccup, Puppy, and other plays.
The Visceral Company, called "LA's premiere horror theatre troupe" by Fangoria magazine, specializes in works that explore the dark, strange, and macabre killer shows from darker places. We hope to encourage further onstage exploration of the horror, thriller, and science fiction genres, which have been underrepresented in theatre, and to build an appreciation of theatre in the younger audiences that are traditionally drawn to them.
This production is presented under the AEA LA 99-Seat Theatre Plan.
