Berkeley Public School Gardening Program Gala
Berkeley Public School Gardening Program Gala Reception: A Fundraiser and Reception Party Saturday, June 7, 2014 6:00-9:00pm
The Berkeley Public School Gardening Program has been offering prekindergarten to high school students a gardening and nutrition education for over twelve years. The District-wide program supports student learning in science, math, and language arts, and encourages students to explore the value of eating fresh fruits and vegetables, getting physical activity, and knowing where their food comes from. These exploratory lessons that focus on whole child education have become an integral part of a Berkeley student's academic life. This is such an important program that helps build the foundation for our good food movement; starting with our youth, and meeting in the garden. Our story is one of inspiration and future forward thinking. I'm calling on our food system and education friends and networks to help spread the word.
We are celebrating this story at this gala with generous support from local and regional businesses, Whole Foods, UC Berkeley's Chancellor's Office, Andronicos, M. Lowe Jewelers, and the Ecology Center. We will have a beautiful spread with farm to table fare provided by Whole Foods' special catering Chef Silvia with local and regional produce from small organic farms found in the immediate area. We will also be sipping small craft brews from Pyramid Ales and CaliCraft Brewing Co., and tasting a wide selection of Mendocino wines while swaying to jazz performed by the Berkeley Public Middle School ensemble and perusing the fine auction items.
Join us and several leading voices in the good food movement as our guest speakers for this gala reception. We hope to see you at the gala and we look forward to continuing the conversations around food systems and education. Please help spread the word and purchase event tickets here.
