Jim Thomas Memorial Concert, featuring Scott Piper
Jim Thomas (1930-2009) was a longtime member of the English Department at Truman and a widely published poet.  Late in 2009 Truman State University Press put out a book of his poems entitled Brief Tracks.
Scott Piper is a graduate of Truman's Music Department and is now a well-regarded tenor as well as a faculty member of the music department at the University of Michigan. As a personal friend of Thomas', Piper decided to commission a few composers to set some of the poems in Brief Tracks into art songs.
Scott Piper is now coming to Truman on March 29th to give a concert, which will include some of those songs, to commemorate the life of Jim Thomas and raise money for the Jim Thomas Scholarship for English Majors.
