New South Family Supper
A meal to benefit the Southern Foodways Alliance, New South Family Supper: Preserving the Future of Southern Food will bring together thoughtful chefs and artisans and eaters. Hosted by Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison, the supper will celebrate a progressive South, respectful of the past, but keen on a diverse and inclusive future.
Cookery in this region has long leveraged the past. In the NEW SOUTH, chefs and artisans also foretell the future. Through canning, curing, and fermenting, NEW SOUTH chefs and artisans are preserving the future of Southern cuisine.
Proceeds from the evening benefit the Southern Foodways Alliance, an institute of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi. Through documentary, classroom, and outreach initiatives, SFA sets a common table where black and white, rich and poor-all who gather-may consider our history and our future in a spirit of reconciliation.
Where and When: April 6, 2014 at Summerland Farm, Cartersville, Georgia. Buses depart Star Provisions in Atlanta at 3:30. Supper begins at Summerland Farm at 4:30. Buses return for Star Provisions at 7:30.
