What must the Hummingbird See? A multimedia song cycle by Weba Garretson and Ralph Gorodetsky.
"What Must the Hummingbird See?" is a backyard song cycle that evokes the urban wilderness of Echo Park where skunks, possums, hawks and cats manage to thrive.

At Automata, the live performance of Garretson &Gorodetsky's music is enhanced in several ways: home movies shot by Garretson and Mark Wheaton are edited by Susan Mogul to create an immersive sense of place; objects collected from the backyard (broken umbrellas, dead insects, and animal bones) are transformed into shadow puppets performed by Frances Garretson; and the backyard's most illusive animals are illustrated by Joe Baiza.

This performance is made possible in part by an ARC grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation.
