Kansas City Urban Farms and Gardens Tour
Tour of urban farms on Sunday, June 28 from 10am to 5pm. More than 30 farms and gardens from Shawnee, KS, to Independence, MO, from north and south of the river and many points in between will welcome visitors to tour and learn about the variety of ways people are producing food in the city. The tour will include a variety of for-profit, non-profit and other types of urban agriculture sites. Urban farm businesses will be joined by educational and charitable farms as well as community gardens and urban homesteads, where people are creating a home-grown life right here in KC.
URBAN FARMS...FEED THE PEOPLE - farms that produce food for income by selling a farmers markets or food subscriptions EDUCATION & CHARITABLE GARDENS...SOW THE SEED - farms that teach youth and adults how to grow their own food and/or grow food for food pantries COMMUNITY GARDENS...GROW THE NEIGHBORHOOD gardens for the surrounding neighborhood HOME GARDENS AND URBAN HOMESTEADS...FEED THE FAMILY featuring a continuum of ways people are growing food by their dwellings and on their land
