"A Spectacle of Play" is the first full length and self-produced aerial theatre event put on by Hercinia Arts Collective, a group of artists with backgrounds in aerial, dance, and theatre who create work that transcends traditional circus boundaries. The evening will showcase the groups ground and air based contemporary circus work.
The evening will showcase the following repertoire:
"Everlasting Slumber" is a fairy tale told through aerial silks, hoop, rope, hula hoop, projected animation, puppetry and a musical score. This 45 minute piece was co-created and performed by Kirsten Harvey, Jasper Empson, Emily Hughes and Molly Keczan with music by two time Dora award winner Waylen Miki and animation by Evan DeRushie.
"Grannies in the Park" is an adaptation from our busking show. Performed by Natalie Parkinson and Meg Boland, this acrobatic duo relive their glory days in the circus, this time for an unexpecting audience.
"benched" is a guerrilla aerial film set entirely on a park bench.
"Childhood" is the first of a trilogy of pieces that explore the themes of chaos and predictability. Lead by aerialist and the academically minded Kirsten Edwards, this piece is set at an all girls private school. Using 3 aerial trapeze bars and 6 performers this piece is in constant motion.
"Corporate Chaos" is the second part of the Chaos Project and uses 4 aerial ropes and 8 performers. An extremely physical piece that showcases both the strengths of the aerialist and the bonds of the working 9-5 corporate world.
