29th Jewish Music Festival Pass
Festival pass offers over $25 of savings and grants entry to all festival events March 20-30. Please make note of the following events to ensure you attend all events to which the Festival Pass applies. Festival pass purchaser's name will appear on the will call list for each of the following events:
OPENING NIGHT Thurs., Mar. 20, 8 p.m. Dudu Tassa and the Kuwaitis Yoshi's San Francisco Renowned Israeli singer Tassa performs the hit songs of his Iraqi grandfather and great-uncle from 1930s Baghdad. With special guest Yair Dalal on oud & violin.
Sat., Mar. 22, 8 p.m. Afro-Semitic Experience Freight & Salvage, Berkeley The ensemble blends Jewish and African roots music into a grooving, spiritual mix.
Sun., Mar. 23, 7 p.m. Anthony (Mordechai-Tzvi) Russell's "Convergence" JCC East Bay, Berkeley World premiere of the operatic bass' multi-media show featuring a mix of Negro spirituals, Yiddish and Jewish liturgical songs. Backed by klezmer trio Veretski Pass.
Thurs., Mar. 27, 7:30 p.m. Alicia Jo Rabins' "Kaddish for Bernie Madoff" JCC East Bay, Berkeley The biblical scholar, violinist, poet, and songwriter performs her song cycle exploring the intersection of spirituality, finance and personal responsibility.
Sat., Mar. 29, 8 p.m. Girls in Trouble JCC East Bay, Berkeley Alicia Jo Rabins fronts this indie rock band that performs her artful songs about women in the Bible.
FESTIVAL FINALE Sun., Mar. 30, 8 p.m. Ben Sidran's "Jews and the Great American Songbook" St. John's Presbyterian Church, Berkeley The pianist and singer presents a concert based on his book, 'There Was a Fire: Jews, Music and the American Dream.'
Pass purchasers receive a festival pass badge in person at the Will Call of the first concert you attend. Alternately, purchasers may call and arrange to pick up the badge from our JCC East Bay office March 17-21, 10-6pm.
