The History of Chocolate
Celebrate Valentine's Day weekend weaving art and culinary history with ArtBites! Join Maite Gomez-Rejon in tracing the history of chocolate, the great aphrodisiac and food of the gods, from the ancient Mayans to the European aristocracy at the Los Angeles Museum of Art. Then head to Loteria Grill Hollywood (6627 Hollywood Blvd) to enjoy a three-course lunch prepared by Executive Chef Jimmy Shaw, complete with Mexican hot chocolate and churros.
Please note that though this class meets at LACMA it is not LACMA organized.

ABOUT ARTBITES: Maite Gomez-Rejon has a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Grande Diplome from the French Culinary Institute in New York City. Since 1995 Maite has worked in the education departments of such renowned museums as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art, LACMA and the Getty Villa; and has worked as a private chef and caterer. In 2007, Maite founded ArtBites, art and culinary history combined with hands-on cooking instruction, which she teaches at museums across the country. Maite has been a guest on the Today Show, featured in Food & Wine magazine and interviewed on NPR's Splendid Table.
ABOUT LOTERIA GRILL: Since opening the first Lotería Grill at The Original Farmers' Market Los Angeles in 2002, Chef/Owner Jimmy Shaw has created a nationally renowned restaurant empire built on the idea of el futuro antojo, the future craving, with his authentic take on Mexican flavors. Lotería Grill has five locations throughout Los Angeles.
