THE QUEENS OF KING - A Tribute to Carole King
Big Easy Award Winning performers Lisa Picone and Dorian Rush are collaborating on a new cabaret show The Queens of King: A Tribute to Carole King accompanied by music director Natalie True and produced by Jonathan Mares Productions. The show opens Thursday January 16 and runs through Saturday January 25 at The AllWays Theatre on St. Claude Ave. Shows times are Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
"The Queens of King: A Tribute to Carole King" pays homage to the amazing Carole King who wrote and co-wrote over 400 songs for over 1,000 recording artists. Picone and Rush will perform the songs she made famous (I Feel The Earth Move, It's Too Late, So Far Away) and the songs she wrote that others made famous: (Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, Pleasant Valley Sunday, You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman, You've Got A Friend). The music will span King's career from the sixties to today.
Lisa Picone won the Big Easy Award for Best Cabaret of 2010 for her hit show "Lisa Sings Lee", a cabaret show featuring the songs of Miss Peggy Lee. Dorian Rush won the Big Easy Award for Best Cabaret Show of 2009 for her Janis Joplin cabaret, "Livin' Janis." The two are regular performers with the New Orleans theatre troupe "Running With Scissors" and are excited to collaborate on this new work.
Accompanist Natalie True's work as a music director has garnered her several Big Easy, Storer Boone and Marquee award nominations. Credits include "Evil Dead" (See 'Em On Stage Productions), "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson" (Harms Way Theatre), "tick,tick...BOOM", "Songs for a New World" and "Leader of the Pack" (Two Left Feet Productions), "The Fantasticks" (Ensemble Arts), "The Sound of Music", "Goodnight, Moon" and "Footloose" (JPAS) and "Rent" (Southern Rep). True and Picone worked together on "Songs For A New World" at Le Chat Noir in 2009. True holds a B.M. in Violin Performance and an M.A. in Music Education from Mansfield University and is a music teacher at the Louise S. McGehee School.
