Vishten from P.E.I, see note below for program change
UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO PAPERWORK PROBLEMS, PADRAIG RYNNES'S VISA DID NOT COME THROUGH IN TIME, SO HE WILL NOT BE JOINING US. HOWEVER, MATT HEATON AND "The Vox Hunters" will be sitting in.
Matt Heaton is an accomplished string player and singer known for his work with various groups in the area. Armand Aromin & Benedict Gagliardi are musically bound by a shared love of traditional Irish music, which originally brought them together, as well as an eclectic amalgam of songs both inside and far outside the realm of 'folk music'. Pairing Armand's fiddle playing and Ben's concertina & singing style, the boys present an exciting repertoire of driving dance tunes blended with an unorthodox collection of interesting songs and musical varia.
Prince Edward Island is swathed in the mixing bowl of French, English, Scottish, and Irish music, and Vishten is one of the great exponents of what its distinct music tradition has become. Their newest CD Mozaik, is a beauty indeed and I have seen them perform live in Newfoundland where I was blown away by their musicality, versatility, and sheer energy. Just watch the video on the left to see exactly what I mean.
The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world. It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
