Fremont Fireside Chat Presents 'What About The Burkes?'
For the January installment of the Fremont Fireside Chat series, learn about J.R. Burke, and his legacy in Fremont, An interview with his daughter, Suzie Burke, will share how Burke Millwork began, why it moved to Fremont, and what caused it to become Fremont Dock Company - a property management company that leases space to industrial, retail and services businesses throughout Fremont. The interview will be conducted by Kirby Lindsay, publisher of Fremocentrist.com and granddaughter to J.R.
This free, one-hour talk will take place in the comfort of History House of Greater Seattle, with a juice-and-cookies reception to follow.
Hear anecdotes about Fremont's formative years, and the mills that formed the foundation of our industrial area. Enjoy stories about how J.R. transformed his mill company into property management, and why he did so. Ask questions of one of Fremont's movers-n-shakers about what it takes for a family to operate a business for over seven decades, and find out how the Burke family influenced Fremont - and Fremont influenced the Burkes.
The Fremont Fireside Chat series is sponsored by HomeStreet Bank. In 2014, six Chats will share details about the culture, events, history and people of Fremont. Plan to attend the future Fremont Fireside Chats on March 29th, May 31st, August 2nd, October 4th, and November 15th.
