RUBBLE WOMEN
UMO ENSEMBLE - RUBBLE WOMEN Written and conceived by Martha Enson (UMO Ensemble Founding Member) Directed by Shelia Daniels (Intiman Associate Artistic Director) Composed by Gretta Harley (Cornish) Inspired by the actual Rubble Women of post World War II Berlin, this world premiere play viscerally explores the strength of women throughout time. Rubble Women (Trmmerfrauen), not only tended the wounded, buried the dead and salvaged belongings, they also began the grueling task of rebuilding war-torn Germany by clearing the country's cities of an estimated 400 million cubic meters of debris, using only basic tools and their bare hands. Each of the eight cast members represents an archetypal character from mythology or literature including: Hecuba, Little Match Girl, Psyche, Handless Maiden, Electra, Scheherazade, Philomela and Penelope. Cast: Marchette DuBois, Martha Enson, Tracy Hyland, Kajsa Ingemansson, Carina Jingrot, Elizabeth Klob, Mik Kuhlman, and Amy Rider. (Additional direction and choreography by Peter Dylan O'Connor) More information: www.umo.org
