Doodu Boy
'Doodu Boy' is a solo play written and performed by Stefhen Bryan, dramaturged and directed by Jared Scheib. It is the true story of Bryan's struggle across three continents to find unconditional love in the face of an abusive mother and absent father.
The story begins with Stefhen's frightening childhood on a church commune in a Jamaican ghetto, where he falls into the communal cesspool and earns his nickname: Doodu Boy. He soon escapes to America where he's long dreamt of roadtrips with his father, but life never seems to fulfill those hopes. After multiple attempts on his own life, learning the shocking truth of his origins, and a show-down with an NYPD armada as he attempts to reconnect with his father, Doodu Boy ultimately leaves the West to begin a rebirth in Japan. There, in the midst of a sexual rampage, he meets a girl who promises the beginnings of the deep connection that he's always wanted.
