Beginning Beekeeping Course. Learn sustainable beekeeping with an emphasis on chemical-free practices from the experts over three consecutive Saturday half-days. An optional fourth Saturday open hive demonstration in the bee yard and equipment assembly workshop followed by a graduation luncheon is included.
Topics include: Beekeeping Equipment & Protective Gear, Honey Bee Biology, the Colony & Getting Started, Honey Bee Pests & Diseases - Their Prevention and Control, Seasonal Hive Management and Honey Production and Other Hive Products Tuition includes MAAREC Beekeeping Basics,additional beekeeping publications, refreshments each day and a five-month Guild membership from February 8, 2014 to June 30, 2014. $20 tuition available for additional students in the same household not receiving reference materials. Minor children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
This course fulfills the educational requirement of six (6) hours of classroom instruction in introductory beekeeping training for the qualified level of the Virginia Master Beekeeper Program.
