The Vagina Monologues
Berkeley High presents "The Vagina Monologues," the Obie Award-winning episodic play by Eve Ensler. Based on interviews with over 200 women about their memories and experiences of sexuality, the play gives voice to women's deepest fantasies and fears. It is witty and irreverent, compassionate and wise.
Performed by Berkeley High Students, the play is part of V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sexual slavery.
Proceeds go to local Bay Area organizations and Panzi Hospital in the Democratic Republic of the Congo which treats women victims of a war that has left 5.4 million people dead. Congolese women and girls have born the brunt of this vicious war with over 300,000 raped, tortured and destroyed.
