Rub elbows with Writing Pad luminaries and instructors, drink glug, and kiss someone under a copy of "For Whom The Bell Tolls". Yowsa! About Nia Vardalos: Nia Vardalos is the Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated actress and writer of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." An alumnus of The Second City comedy theater, she also starred in and wrote "Connie and Carla" and "I Hate Valentine's Day," starred in "My Life In Ruins," and co-wrote "Larry Crowne" with Tom Hanks. Her NY Times best selling memoir, "Instant Mom," a hilarious and heartfelt bumpy-road-to-parenting story was published in April 2013 by Harper Collins.
About Issa Rae: Issa Rae is the creator and star of the popular webseries, "The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl" (ABG). As a Forbes 30 Under 30 recipient, Root 100 Most Influential Person and winner of the 2012 Shorty Award for Best Web Show for ABG. In 2012, Issa Rae and ABG caught the attention of renowned artist and tastemaker, Pharrell Williams who hosted ABG Season 2 on his new Google Channel, "i am OTHER" in Summer 2012. In Fall 2012, Rae worked with Shonda Rhimes and ABC Studios to develop a half-hour comedy series called, "I Hate L.A. Dudes." Issa is currently working with Tracey Edmonds and AlrightTV to release a musical web series called, "The Choir." Larry Wilmore and Issa Rae are also co-writing a comedy series project for HBO, with Rae set to star. On the literary front, Issa is is currently slated to release a book of essays with Simon & Schuster in 2014.
About DC Pierson: DC Pierson is an American comedian, author, and actor. His first novel, The Boy Who Couldn't Sleep And Never Had To (Vintage Contemporary) won an Alex Award for adult books with special appeal for teen readers from the American Library Association. His second book, Crap Kingdom was published this March by Viking. He's one-fifth of DERRICK, a sketch comedy group whose videos have been seen over 250 million times on YouTube. He co-wrote and co-starred in DERRICK's feature film,"Mystery Team" that premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, released theatrically by Roadside Attractions, and is available on DVD from Lionsgate. He has appeared on TV shows such as "Community" and "Weeds", various commercials, movies both short and long. He is a member of The Upright Citizens Brigade's legendary Wednesday Night Brew Crew. He publishes short stories, poems, and un-asked-for opinions on his website, www.dcpierson.com.
About Taffy Brodesser-Akner: Taffy Brodesser-Akner is a writer whose personal essays, reported personal essays, interviews, and articles have been published in The New York Times, GQ, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, Self, O Magazine, Salon, Playboy, The Daily Beast, American Baby, Babble, Tablet, amongst other publications. Prior to becoming a full-time journalist, she began and ran Media Bistro's education program from its beginning until 2006. She holds a Bachelor's degree of Fine Arts in Dramatic Writing from NYU (Tisch School of the Arts) where she concentrated in screenwriting.
