Book passage for this Midwest premiere voyage of this charming, daffy comedy. Bruce Murphy is a playwright, editor and pundit, whose "past ports of call" include being the "not-so-'Old Guard'-ian" of many respected area publications and websites, as well as being a correspondent for local news media.
This scrappy satire delightfully relates the tale of a once-thriving theatre company (hmm ... "X" marks the spot in this spoof!) which is floundering on arid fiscal shores, due to one too many negative reviews by a crusty, power-mad critic, shrinking audience numbers and a general loss of once-youthful passion (the dreaded "I'm not 25 anymore" syndrome!).
Murphy's play is an armada of enjoyment, mixing rollicking comic swells with adroit undertows of ennui. It is nigh-onto the JERSEY BOYS of local scripts and surpasses even the theatrical rewards of (dare we say?) RAGTIME. Yet, note the affordable prices - every admission is well under not $100, not $75, but under $25! What a rarity in Milwaukee, these days!
