Nativity! The Musical 2013
Now going into its ninth year, Nativity: The Musical! runs December 12-15. Greg Simay of BurbankNBeyond urged readers to put the show on their "list of feel-good holiday activities. Each year the skits and songs are freshly conceived...the dominant tone of Nativity: The Musical was joyous fun. It's as if Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney had looked at each other and said, 'Let's put on a show! About Christmas!'" The Burbank Leader's David Laurell calls it a "hysterical and yet touching blend of the Christmas story" complete with a "Felliniesque flock" of characters in what might seem a "heavily-spiked-nog-laden-dream."
The original musical comedy is written and directed by entertainment industry veterans Greg and Melissa Baldwin, who weave in fresh topical references each year. Be it the Mayan calendar hoopla, Lady Gaga, the Occupy Wall Street movement or Honey Boo-Boo, the Baldwins and their cast of 100+ leave no pop culture phenomenon unskewered as the birth of Christ is retold in song and shtick. Rumor has it that this year an unusual weather pattern known as a "Sharknado" may be approaching the Greater Bethlehem Area.
"Enjoy the lighter side of Nativity," urged Holly J. Andres of the Los Angeles Daily News. Staged by Imagine, the drama ministry of Westminster Presbyterian Church (http://www.westpresburbank.org <http://www.westpresburbank.org> ), performances will take place on December 12 (7 p.m.), 13 (8 p.m.), 14 (2 p.m. and 8 p.m.) and 15 (2 p.m. and 7 p.m.) in the church's sanctuary, located at 542 N. Buena Vista Street (at the corner of Buena Vista and Clark) in Burbank. A donation of $10 per adult (or $8 in advance) and $7 per student (or $5 in advance) is suggested.
