A full-length work rooted in Taiko drumming, FROM RAGE COMES is Raging Asian Women's first theatrical concert, presenting the truths of diasporic Asian-Canadian women through original & traditional compositions, choreography and pedestrian movement, video projections and storytelling.
Raging Asian Women Taiko Drummers (RAW) is one of the few all-women taiko drumming groups in the world. RAW performance is a mix of thunderous drums, movement, spirit, and presence. RAW presents raw, unapologetic images of powerful women in joyful rage. Naomi Klein remarked that RAW's audiences are invited to "feel their own power and courage, and anything becomes possible." RAW plays on drums made by their own hands, and delivers performances that are all heart and adrenaline. RAW is a community arts collective of Asian and Asian-Canadian Women in Toronto. Formed in 1998, they carry on the Japanese Taiko tradition as evolved through North America. RAW places a special focus on social activism, education, and community building. Through performance, education, and community outreach, RAW challenges systemic inequities, represent their realities, and inspire others towards their own empowerment, especially women and girls of colour. RAW is based in Toronto, Canada, and is a registered, not-for-profit organization.
