For 2014, A Gathering of Writers and Readers has invited four of our best regional writers to share their works and their creative practices with those in attendance. The authors are Wiley Cash (author of New York Times bestseller, A Land More Kind Than Home and the forthcoming, This Dark Road to Mercy);Anne Butler (Local Saint Francisville author and historian); Rheta Grimsley Johnson (nationally syndicated columnist and author); and Julie Kane (former Poet Laureate of Louisiana). Ernest Gaines, nationally known author from New Roads, Louisiana and a recent National Medal of Arts winner, will be present as our guest of honor. Mr. Gaines was a mentor of Wiley Cash when he studied at the University of Louisiana Lafayette. Featured authors from our 6 previous symposia will also be our special guests. The 2014 Gathering of Writers and Readers promises to be our best symposium yet. It is a daylong event beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending around 3:00 p.m. Your ticket price includes parking, refreshments, individual presentations by the authors, moderated panel discussions, book signings, a luncheon featuring regional cuisine, and a dessert buffet featuring local cooks' favorite recipes. Selected books by participating authors will be available for sale throughout the day.
