The Southeast B-Boy Championships 4
November 2nd 2013 - Asheville, North Carolina now sets the stage for the Southeast's premiere street dance event: The Southeast B-Boy Championships 4. Top dancers from across the United States and beyond will gather to battle it out in 3 separate competitions for $2,500 in cash and prizes, a grand prize trip to New York City, and the coveted Southeast Crown. This event also creates the opportunity to re-introduce this artistic and cultural movement that has long been absent from the local community.
A battle is essentially, a competition between two individuals or crews. Since the birth of Hip Hop in the Bronx, New York during the early 1970s, battles have, and still do take place as impromptu contests "on the street," where rival members of opposing crews attempt to display their mastery of the dance over one another. These days, however, a typical battle is an organized event where street dancers of various disciplines come together to compete at a predetermined location and are judged by a respected panel of their own peers.
The Southeast B-Boy Championships 4 is, however, more than a battle. This is a family-friendly event aimed at creating awareness and unity through proactive participation within the local community as well as fostering the peaceful and positive principles that have laid the foundation for modern street dance that is today a global community. This event offers a full day of workshops, music, history, education and of course, dancing, for all ages and skill levels as well boasting an all-star cast of Dj's including: Felix Fusik, Dj Aswell, Brett Rock, Dj Bowie (4 time winner: The Mountain Xpress: Best Of WNC Dj) and the host with most, B-Boy Frantic.
The Southeast B-Boy Championships 4 is also very proud to present a raffle sponsored by Flipside Boardshop of Asheville and The Ashevillain Skate Company with free giveaways with the purchase of a raffle ticket. All proceeds from the raffle go directly to fund the local LEAF Schools & Streets dance programs for the youth. The Southeast B-Boy Championships take place at The Masonic Temple (80 Broadway), Downtown Asheville. General admission opens at 12pm. Workshops run from 1pm-5pm. Registration for all competitions is from 5pm-7pm. Competitions run from 7-11pm. The entry fee includes free registration for all competitions throughout the entire event including all 4 dance workshops featuring: L'il Rock, Ken Fury, Kunstruct and Asheville's own Aquaboogy. Kids 10 years of age and under get in for free.
