A Southland favorite, the Scottish Fiddlers of Los Angeles return to the Hermosa Beach Playhouse for their 33rd Annual Spring Concert.  A fiery program of marches, strathspeys, reels and jigs in the rousing Scottish tradition will be performed by the 30 member orchestra featuring fiddles, cellos, basses, guitars, clarinets, drums, piano, bagpipe, dancers, and Gaelic song.  The Fiddlers are excited to be joined this year by renowned Scottish fiddle master Calum MacKinnon.  Also joining the Fiddlers are Mari Black, national Scottish fiddle champion and multistyle violinist and in a return performance, acclaimed singer Christina Tappan.

Originally from the island of Tiree in Scotland's Hebrides, Calum MacKinnon is known as a tradition-bearer of the art of Scottish fiddling.  The infectious energy and sensitivity of Calum's playing has made him a highly sought-after performer and teacher.  His schedule of concerts workshops and dances has taken him across the U.S., Canada, Scotland, England, and Japan.   While true to his roots, his Scottish fiddling style has also been influenced by Cape Breton, Old Time, Appalachian, and other North American fiddle styles, many of which are variants of the Scottish tunes brought over in centuries past.

Mari Black is rapidly building a reputation as one of the most dynamic young artists of her generation. Her energetic playing, engaging stage presence, and commitment to bringing people together through music have made her a favorite with audiences across the country and around the world. A master of diverse musical styles, Mari is the 2013 U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion.
