Conversations: An Evening with Khaled Hosseini
Join us for a special night with New York Times Bestselling author, Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, And The Mountains Echoed). Mr. Hosseini will share - in a casual and candid conversation - about his work as both an author and human rights advocate. The evening will be moderated by Budd MacKenzie, founder of Trust in Education. Khaled Hosseini is a master at telling a story and inspiring people (like Budd MacKenzie) to become involved. Guests in attendance will have an opportunity to ask questions as well in a Q&A session following the program.

Khaled Hosseini's debut novel, The Kite Runner, was on the New York Times Bestseller List for over one hundred weeks and his sophomore novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, debuted at #1 on the New York Times Bestselling List and remained there for fifteen weeks. His first two books have been sold in over seventy countries and have sold over 38 million copies worldwide. His third novel, And The Mountains Echoed, debuted Spring 2013 in the top 5 of the New York Times Bestseller List and has remained in the top 5 for the past fourteen weeks. In 2006, he was named a Goodwill Envoy to UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency.

Budd MacKenzie founded Trust In Education in 2004. After reading the book "Charlie Wilson's War" and visiting Afghanistan he concluded that we have a moral obligation to the Afghan people to help them rebuild their lives and country. He has devoted more than 80% of his time since then to helping Afghan families, primarily by supporting education of their children. He has traveled to Afghanistan twice a year for over 8 years. His seventeenth visit will occur the end of this September.

Trust in Education, a grass roots, people to people non-profit organization has expanded from building one school for 120 children, to funding the construction of another school for 400 girls opening this Fall. Trust in Education supports 23 teachers who teach classes in 10 villages. In 2013 they helped educate more than 1,000 children, over 40% of whom are girls.

TIE works will villagers to jointly prioritize their needs, funds economic development projects and other wish list items, so families can one day lose their dependence upon others. TIE found sponsors for more than 75 street children who are now off the streets and in school. TIE has also provided food and clothing in 2013 to over 2,000 families living in refugee camps. For more information about Trust in Education visit its website at http://www.trustineducation.org/

Tickets for the event are $50 for General Seating and $30 for Students. The evening will include a pre-discussion reception, speaking program, audience Q&A and will finish with a book-signing.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit Trust in Education.
