Circle Squared Collective presents THE LARAMIE PROJECT
On October 6th of 1998 Matthew Shepard was beaten and left to die tied to a fence in the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. He died 6 days later. His torture and murder became a watershed historical moment in America that highlighted many of the fault lines in our culture. A month after the murder, Moises Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Laramie and conducted interviews with the people of the town. The goal was to create a play that focused not on the assault on Matthew Shepard, but on the community where such an attack could happen, and how many of the citizens reacted to the crime.
The Circle Squared Collective is opening THE LARAMIE PROJECT on October 12, 2013, the fifteenth anniversary of Matthew Shepard's death.
