Royal Coffee presents the Oakland Premiere of "The Way Back to Yarasquin" a film by local filmmaker Sarah Gerber. The short documentary portrays Mayra Orellana-Powell's journey from the United States back to her hometown in Santa Elena, Honduras where she has connected small coffee farmers to the specialty coffee market in the Bay Area in an effort to raise the standard of living for these farming families. The film follows Mayra and several Bay Area coffee professionals, including Max Nicholas Fulmer from Royal Coffee, to Santa Elena in pursuit of spectacular coffee. Beyond the exploration for coffee, this story emotionally captures the human side of coffee in a way that will inspire the role coffee lovers can have in the sustainable development of rural communities like Santa Elena. The film will be followed up by a Q&A with Mayra and its director, Sarah Gerber. Mayra will discuss her newest effort called the "pickers project" in which additional funds generated from the sale of Santa Elena coffee will be used to fund a bonus payment to the community of more than 400 coffee pickers in recognition of their vital role in the selection of quality coffee.
