Saved By A Poem ~ A Concert of Mystical Poetry and Music
A Rare Appearance of Three Visionary Artists in Ventura, CA.
Mystics, poets and shamans have always known that powerful music joined with poetry can unlock the mind, melt the heart and bring all levels of being into harmony. Consciousness shifts, brainwaves change, biochemistry alters, healing and revelation abound.
Join these three inspirational artists to discover the magic of merging inspired music with the transformative power of some of the greatest poetry of all time. In this concert, Spoken Word Artist and author, Kim Rosen, Composer/Pianist Gary Malkin, and Master Cellist Michael Fitzpatrick will pioneer new frontiers of the ancient partnership between poetry and music.
Kim Rosen's gift of speaking the poems of ancient and modern writers has opened thousands to poetry's power to awaken and transform individuals and communities. She reveals that poetry is our first language: the language of the soul, the most ancient vessel of prayer and revelation. Gary Malkin, who recently moved to Ojai, is a master composer and pianist. His music fuses the power of meditation with the beauty of a gorgeous film soundtrack. Michael Fitzpatrick, the cellist who has been performing around the world with the Dalai Lama for many years, brings a classic quality to the evening that only the richness of the cello can provide. Kim Rosen, MFA, author of Saved by a Poem: The Transformative Power of Words (Hay House, 2009), has touched listeners all over the world with the power of spoken poetry. Combining her devotion to poetry with her background in spirituality and psychology, she has recited in a spectrum of settings from the New Orleans Superdome to a Maasai Safe House in the Great Rift Valley. She is the co-creator of 4 CDs of poems and music and her writing has been featured in O Magazine, The Sun, and The New Yorker Magazine. www.kimrosen.net

"Kim's gift of speaking poems is a gorgeous incantation, an irresistible call to break open." Eve Ensler, activist and author of The Vagina Monologues and In the Body of the World.
Gary Malkin is a seven- time Emmy-award winning composer producer, and recording artist dedicated to making a difference in the world by creating music and media that inspires the heart, heals the soul and catalyzes social change. Gary is the co-author of the globally acclaimed Graceful Passages, a project co-created with Michael Stillwater that features spoken messages from humanitarian leaders of our time enhanced with original music, designed to support us through the poignant transitions of our lives. He is also the composer for socially responsible projects such as the Awakening the Dreamer Symposium and the global film sensation, Thrive. Gary's work has been recently featured on the PBS national TV series Healing Quest.
"When I listen to Gary Malkin's music, I'm reminded of the intimacy between the world of nature 'out there' and our own personal realms of imagination. Gary is the musical Hermes, the artist go-between, connecting our deepest selves to the vast world we live in. No service could be more important." Thomas Moore, Bestselling Author of "Care of the Soul"
"Malkin's music is lush and elegant truly distinctive and first rate." Mark Isham, Internationally known Film Composer and Recording Artist
Hailed by The New York Times as possessing "virtuosity, a sense of humor - and an ear for musical dialogue" and as "an interpreter of the Muse" by NPR/National Public Radio, Michael Fitzpatrick has performed as cello-soloist around the world at venues ranging from the United States Capitol West Lawn to the Hollywood Bowl. Recipient of the Prince Charles Award for Outstanding Musicianship conferred by H.R.H. "Possessed of a chill-axed surfer dude vibe, what Michael Fitzpatrick does with a cello cannot be adequately described as mere music. The best way I can describe the sounds he pours out of that four-stringed instrument is simple beauty that fills one's soul with pure joy and peace. Plus, he just flat-out rocks." www.michaelfitzpatrick.com
