Garden City Grooves Day 1

GCG kicks off with an incredible quadruple bill at Victoria's newest live music venue, Publik, featuring The Gabriel Palatchi Band (Argentina/BC), The New Groovement and The New Souls. Closing the evening in style will be local DJs Truth Soundsystem and a special Garden City Grooves edition of their very successful monthly, all-vinyl soul night "For Dancers Only".

The Gabriel Palatchi Band made their Victoria debut at the Victoria International Jazzfest in June, scorching the dancefloor with their explosive mix of latin, afro-cuban, jazz and funk grooves. Virtuoso Argentinian pianist/keyboardist Gabriel Palatchi and his band of prominent players from Vancouver Island's latin music scene, will bring a special funk-
heavy set to GCG's opening night, showcasing the band's phenomenal musicianship and Palatchi's funky fingers.

Victoria's newest funk family, The New Groovement, fresh from their performances at Jazzfest and Skafest will headline the evening with their signature hip-hop and soul-influenced, horn-driven funk sound. The New Groovement, an eleven-piece funk machine, creates a frenzied, funk-i-fied feast for the ears and booty.

The New Souls are a high-energy sextet hailing from Vancouver Island. A blend of the smooth feel of soul and gospel with the raw power of rock and the expression
of jazz, The New Souls are inspired by artists like Stevie Wonder, Esperanza Spalding, Marvin Gaye, The Police, and Allen Stone.

The Truth Soundsystem might be the most established act in this years festival. DJs KTF and Soul Scorcher have been spinning vinyl in Victoria for over seven years. Residents at Smiths Pub, they began For Dancers Only in 2010 and have been drawing soul/funk/dance-addicts in greater numbers to every show. Garden City Grooves is proud to partner with The Truth Soundsystem for a special GCG edition of For Dancer's Only party on day one of the festival. No MP3's folks just pure black vinyl. So please join them in heating up the dance floor!
