Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir, regarded as a leader in the gospel choir movement in Canada, is known for its dynamic vocal sound, excellence in performance and a commitment to sharing the "good noise" that is gospel music.
Good Noise is excited to welcome Crystal Hicks as our 2013-2014 Artist In Residence. Crystal is known for her powerful and dynamic gospel voice and has performed throughout Canada, the U.S. and the Caribbean, having been featured with the Vancouver Symphony and the Toronto Mass Gospel Choir.
Good Noise has garnered a number of awards and distinctions in recent years. The choir has received a nomination for a Canadian Gospel Music Award for the debut CD "Glory to the Newborn King" and has been voted "Best Choir" in the Vancouver Courier's 2013 Reader's Choice Awards, keeping company with some of Vancouver's choral institutions: Vancouver Bach Choir, Musica Intima, Vancouver Chamber Choir and Chor Leoni Men's Choir.
In addition to performing with such artists as David Foster, Josh Groban, Daniel Lapp, Dee Daniels, Jim Byrnes, John Lee Sanders, Jennifer Scott, Karin Plato, Kate Hammett-Vaughan, Good Noise received a special invitation to perform with the legendary Barbra Streisand at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The Vancouver Sun's Francois Marchand highlighted the choir as he declared "The highlight of the concert was easily the spectacular rendition of Leonard Bernstein's Make Our Garden Grow, which united Streisand, Il Volo, Botti, Gould, violinist Caroline Campbell and the Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir for an all-out ode to love and nature."
Good Noise has appeared on CBC Radio, Global TV, CityTV, Bravo, Knowledge Network and Vision TV. The choir has performed at several festivals, including the Vancouver Folk Festival, Envision Jazz Festival and the Wintersong Festival.
The choir is "Gospel Choir In Residence" at Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver and is directed by founding artistic director Gail Suderman. Known in both the classical and contemporary music communities as an outstanding performer, conductor, accompanist and voice teacher, Gail brings many years of formal music studies as well as many years of performing experience to her role as leader of Good Noise.
Gail directs the choir from the piano, and the choir is honoured to have Mike Kalanj on Hammond B3, Laurence Mollerup on Bass Guitar and Double Bass, Elliot Polsky on Drums and Percussion and Ingrid Stitt on Alto and Soprano Saxophones.
