Revenge & Guilt
Revenge and Guilt is a farce that draws on serious themes of anger, regret, maturity and faith. It's the story of Cal, an aging New Yorker who has a wound that time has not managed to heal. When he was 13, in 1993, Cal, then a kid on Long Island, had the world's worst guitar lesson. His teacher, "Major" Cohen, an up and coming grunge musician, happened to be in a bad mood that afternoon and took it out on poor Cal. Major savaged the boy verbally and insisted that Cal didn't have what it took to follow his dream of rock stardom. Cal left in tears but the scars remained. Life went on for both men but neither found happiness. Now, 20 years later, a reckoning is coming, thanks to the arrival of Gina, Cal's new girlfriend. Gina is a take no prisoners punk who encourages her new boyfriend to find Major and exact revenge so he can move on and start enjoying life. Gina, unbeknownst to Cal, is kleptomaniac nihilist, about to jump parole. She has, of course, her own agenda when it comes to the home invasion. A quick social networking search reveals that "Major," still lives on Long Island, still gives guitar lessons. He has no idea what he's in for when he opens his front door. He survived the 90s but might not make it through the night. Violent, sexy, funny, sad and true, Revenge and Guilt, named after a quote by Elvis Costello is a new kind of cautionary tale: be careful what you wish for because you might not be able to forget it.
