RadioStar and Mannerhouse Manor (SF Improv Festival 2013)
Two Hilarious troupes at the 2013 SF Improv Festival.
Since April 2006, Radiostar Improv has been podcasting wholly improvised radio plays at radiostarnetwork.com. In recent years, Radiostar had moved more and more into live performance, giving a "behind the scenes" radio experience to crowds at the SF Improv Festival, SF Fringe Festival, and audiences at 50 Mason Social House. Radiostar takes a single suggestion from the audience, often no more than a single word, and then generates a full length radio play from it. It's kind of like Prarie Home Companion, only with more real estate-minded giant ants, lunatic Brigadier Generals, and supernatural doomsday scenarios.
Mannerhouse Manor is a fully improvised Edwardian comedy in the style of Downton Abbey or Upstairs, Downstairs. The show takes place on an English country estate during the 1910s, and every show presents the family who lives there, the servants who tend to them, and the comedy and drama that unite their lives. Each episode is entirely unscripted. Mannerhouse Manor contains love, honor, and tea so much tea. Fans who can quote all three seasons of Downton Abbey or novices who can hardly tell the difference between a crumpet and a biscuit are all welcome to Mannerhouse Manor.
