DanceAfrica is coming to Philadelphia! Community Education Center (CEC) in partnership with Drexel University presents DanceAfrica Philadelphia. DanceAfrica the country's most renowned festival of African dance, music and culture. Created in New York City by the esteemed Dr. Chuck Davis, the festival has been produced by the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) for 36 seasons. Philadelphia is the sixth major city to present this spectacular African dance and music celebration. Each DanceAfrica is unique, taking on the energy of each of the host cities. The main event, two days of dazzling dance performances, a African marketplace and workshops in dance and drumming at the Drexel Main Building, 3141 Market Street. DanceAfrica Philadelphia, Our African Legacy: Treasured Reflections, features performances by Philadelphia's Kùlú Mèlé African Dance and Drum Ensemble, Kariamu and Co.: Traditions, Illstyle and Peace Productions, and special guests from Washington, DC, Farafina Kan.
In addition to the two main stage concerts, there will be a performance for school age children, also at the Drexel Main Building. Teachers call the CEC for more information.
