ABOUT THE 48 HOUR FILM PROJECT
The 48 Hour Film Project, the first and biggest timed film competition in the world, brings filmmaking teams together to make a movie from scratch. Filmmakers write, shoot, edit and score a film in two days.
This year the filmmaking weekend begins in New York on Friday, May 31st when each team draws a genre out of a hat. All teams are given the same character, prop, and line of dialogue which they must incorporate into their films.
On Sunday, June 2nd, the bleary-eyed filmmakers will race to the finish line to submit their film by the 7:30 pm deadline. No exceptions!! No amount of crying, pleading or death threats will soften the heart of the New York Producer.
On June 7, 8, 9, all films will be viewed on the big screen in front of a packed house. Judges will vote on which film deserves the honor of "Best of New York" while the audience votes for their favorites.
The Best of New York screening will be Friday, June 14.
This is a competition that is exciting, exhilarating, frustrating, exhausting, and pure fun!
The winning New York team will compete against other films at the 48 Hour Film Project's Filmapalooza, our international screening and awards event. International winners screen at Cannes!
