Amadeus
How did Mozart die? Rheumatic fever? Pneumonia? Or was he murdered by another composer? Centered on the rumor that composer Antonio Salieri confessed to murdering Mozart, AMADEUS weaves a confrontation between mediocrity and genius and turns it into a tale of breathtaking drama. Salieri is the influential court composer admired and much-decorated by Emperor Joseph of Austria. Salieri prays that he might become the great composer everyone thinks him to be, but is foiled by the greatest musical genius of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart foul-mouthed and childish, yet touched by the very God to whom Salieri prays. The final contest is not between Salieri and Mozart, but between Salieri and God.
