Terry Baum and Carolyn Myers are The Crackpot Crones // A Coupla' Crackpot Crones
Slightly World-Renown Lesbian Playwright meets Retired Warrior Princess of Improv. Warning: Feminist material. In "A Coupla Crackpot Crones," Terry Baum and Carolyn Myers perform sketch comedy, improvisation and tell improbable true stories.
Eve leaves Eden for therapy; The Fool seeks love among the women in the audience; Theresa Thesaurus deconstructs a pious cliche; The Red Hanky Grannies escape nursing home; Crones say "No!" to Drones; two women find passionate love at work in Santa Cruz.
Amidst a Sea of 1,000 Naked Breasts---at The Amazon Women's Music Festival---under the towering Santa Cruz Redwoods---in 1974---the young Terry Baum received the vision of a women's theater troupe. She started Lilith, the famous San Francisco women's theater of the 1970s, of which Carolyn Myers was also a core member. In 1980, Baum and Myers wrote Dos Lesbos, a Play By, For and About Perverts, which inspired Places, Please, the first anthology of lesbian plays in 1985 (edited by Kate McDermott of Santa Cruz). This play also offended the Pope at WorldPride 2000 in Rome. Carolyn and Terry reunited as The Crackpot Crones in 2008. They have performed in California, New York, New Mexico, and Oregon, at the Women on the Way Festival in SF and the New York Fringe Festival. The Crones excel in shows that explore and explode the holidays, such as The "I Hate Valentines Day" Show, MOMS!, and Crones for the Holidays. Their most recent production is Hick: A Love Story, Terry Baum's one-woman show about Eleanor Roosevelt's lesbian lover, which premiered at San Francisco's National Queer Arts Festival in June 2013. Pam Higley has joined the Crackpot Crones, and is pleased to return to Santa Cruz as production stage manager.
"Amusing, endearingly earthy, and politically conscious...These women may be aging but they're still raging." San Francisco Bay Guardian
"Hilarious, raunchy and powerful, The Crones put on a good show." ArtAnimal, a Women's Art Magazine.
