Honky Tonk Holidaze is an original Christmas musical written by Wild Bill Ogden. The cast is made up of many notable Austin musicians, and 100% of proceeds are donated to charity to help the homeless community during the holiday season. The show features "Rocky Horror"-like interactive experiences. A one-of-a-kind show not to be missed.
SYNOPSIS: It's Christmas time and Santa and Mrs. Claus can't get along! Plagued by unicorn dust addictions and a love for the hooch, the two go their separate ways. Santa and his faithful sidekick, Swervin Irven, head to Texas to live out their honky tonk fantasies only to find more trouble waiting for them in every corner. Desperate for acceptance and steady pay, the two quickly find themselves in need of rescue. Christmas will depend on the help of a faithful little Atheist named "Christian", a good hearted woman, and of course, lots of prayers and substance abuse.
This year's performance is set to be OUTSIDE at Sam's Town Point, weather permitting! We are featuring a blanket drive for the homeless this year. Bring a blanket to sit on, and you can donate it to the homeless.
We are benefiting HOME (Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers), and will be collecting scarves and PLAIN WHITE SOCKS (no colors of any kind, please).
There will be an art market between doors and the performance with live music with a very special guest and refreshments.
This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department. Further support provided by Kell Partners and the Austin Chronicle.
